Dr. Seuss Homework

I am looking forward to our week of Dr. Seuss!  Thank you to the families who volunteered to help with snacks - we have it covered! :)  Here are a few details about the week you can help with at home:

RHYME BAG HOMEWORK
Each night, about 6 Kindergarteners will receive a Rhyme Bag that they will share the next day with the rest of us.
The evening your child receives a bag, your child may choose an item to put in the bag.  This will be a "mystery" item for the rest of the class to guess.  Then, your child must think of a word that rhymes with that item and write it on the yellow "clue" paper.  This can be a real or nonsense word.

So, if your child has a ball in the bag, your child might write "wall" on the yellow clue card.  If your child puts a pencil in the bag, your child could write "wencil" on the clue card (this is a nonsense word).   This is a great activity for generating rhyming words by changing the first sound/letter in the word.  The more ideas you brainstorm, the better.  Then your child can choose which one he/she wants to use on the clue card.

Please keep your eye out for this bag and complete it that evening, as we will share it the following day in the classroom (so as to not have everyone sharing on one day).

FRIDAY:  Fox in Socks!
On Friday, we will focus on Fox in Socks & Hop on Pop.  Your child can wear silly socks to school that day!  This may include silly patterned socks or even just wearing two different colored socks.

How else can you reinforce the work we do in the classroom this week?!
* Read Dr. Seuss books at home this week!
* Visit the public library or book store to get Dr. Seuss books to read at home!
* Play & Learn on Seussville.com

Here's to a week of learning and fun!
